Back to school season can be a relief for parents—no more kids messing up the house all day or getting into trouble while parents are at work. However, school season brings new stressors along with it, such as new hazards to watch out for while driving. School buses, school zones, children crossing the street—these are just several things to be aware of when driving during back to school time.
Brush up on your bus safety skills. This not only includes going over how to ride the bus with your child, but also includes reviewing proper safety when driving behind or next to a bus. Always be aware of the bus’s lights and DO NOT pass the bus if it has its stop sign out. Inform your children that they should only cross in front of the bus and they should only do so when the driver says it is safe. More bus safety information can be found here.
Always use extra caution when driving through school zones. There are many distractions and hazards around schools, so it is necessary to remain alert and focused when driving in these areas. Make sure you know the speed limit in these zones and watch out for crossing guards and of course, children.
All of us here at Community Insurance hope you are getting back into the swing of things with school season. Remember that several insurance companies offer discounts for good students; contact our offices to see if you could qualify for this discount! Also remember to contact your agent if any changes need to be made to your policy, such as a child moved away to college.
