Movies in the Park- August 4th and 18th
Movie night just got even more exciting! On Friday, August 4th, head to Pfiffner Pioneer Park in Stevens Point at 6 p.m. for FREE children’s activities, popcorn, soda, candy and a showing of Moana at dusk. Wizard of Oz is showing on the 18th with a special added feature—a costume contest!
Bike for Boys & Girls Club- August 5th
On Saturday, August 5th, join the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County for the Family Ride, a 4 mile bike-ride through the countryside of Portage County. This event is a family-friendly way to get active, get outdoors and support a great cause. All funds raised will support the organization’s youth programs and community initiatives. The Family Ride will begin at 10 a.m. at AIG Travel in the Portage County Business Park. A post-ride party will also take place, equipped with free drinks, food, family activities and other goodies to take home. The registration cost is $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Be sure to register online beforehand if interested or at 7 a.m. on the day of!
Waupaca Kids Triathlon- August 18th
Looking for a fun way for your kids to get active in the Waupaca area? The Kids Triathlon in South Park may be just what you’re looking for! The event includes a swimming, biking and running portion with distances tailored to age. This event is fit for all abilities and fosters good health, self-esteem and self-confidence in a supportive, family-friendly environment. The triathlon will begin at 6 p.m. and will be followed by food, drinks and prizes. Children must be between the ages of 4 and 10 to participate. Register online to secure your spot now!
Arts on the Square- August 18th and 19th
Celebrate the arts in Waupaca with a weekend full of festivities and artistic flair. A street dance will be held the evening of Friday, the 18th followed by a day full of arts workshops, street performers, entertainment stages, theatrical installations and an expanded farmers market on Saturday, the 19th. The festival will take place at the Waupaca Town Square and is a must-do for the whole family! Participants can even create and take home their own art!
Waupaca County Fair-August 23rd- 25th
Nothing says summer quite like the county fair. There’s surely something for the whole family to enjoy with events like the Tractor Pull, Demolition Derby, juggling acts, live music, animal races, rides, games, tons of food and more! General admission is only $5 and kids get in free! Head to the Weyauwega fairgrounds for the thrilling three-day tradition.

August 10th is National S’Mores Day! There’s no better excuse to cozy up to the fire to roast one of America’s favorite sweet treats! The ooey gooey concoctions we know and love today were originally called “Some Mores.” In 1927, Loretta Scott Crew made them for girl scouts at a campfire and later published her recipe in a book by that name. Over the years, the term S’Mores was coined!
