As national volunteer week is coming to a close, we cannot forget that volunteering does not end here. There are great opportunities to get involved in our area and to give back to the community we call home. Here are some ways you can get involved:
• Ignite Humane Society Trail Project- The Humane Society of Portage County is working to turn their wooded area behind their building into a functional trail space so volunteers will be able to go on walks on the trails. The project will be worked on this coming weekend and next weekend: Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28 and Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5 from 9am-3pm. You can sign up to come from 9am-12pm or 12pm-3pm or you can come when you can or for the entire day! If you would like more information contact Kayla at 715-254-2192 or krombalski@unitedwaypoco.org.
• Big Brother Big Sisters- Is always looking for Big’s to be paired with a little and build a positive relationship together. You can volunteer at their school or on our own time and plan your own events. You can apply to be a big online at their website.
If you are unable to donate your time you may also consider donating to the Humane Society or CAP Services an item off their wish list that they are currently in need of like kitty litter or baby wipes. If you are still looking for other ways to volunteer you can always check out VOLUNTEER ROCKS (United Way) or other non-profit websites to see what they may need or stop by and ask. They are always looking for volunteers or items on a wish list. We can all do our part to make our local community strive.
