It was 10 o’clock at night and I was hungry, because I had just gotten done for the day and still needed something to eat. I did not want something greasy or drive thru, but it is hard to find a place at night that is not either of those. That is when I remembered a great place right in downtown Stevens Point- Habibi’s Gyros and Kabob House.
This little gem is planted right on Main Street and specializes in authentic Mediterranean food. They have vegan and vegetarian options, which is great for me! They serve lunch, dinner, and are open late. Their pita pizza is excellent and I have heard the gyros are great too! They make their own baklava and sauces from scratch, which adds a little extra love to make the food taste right. This place not only has great food, but the staff is so nice! Mike, our waiter, that late night, was friendly, talkative, and was willing to cater to our needs.
So the food is great and the staff is nice, AND they are also environmentally friendly. They use EcoProducts that are made from sugar cane at a plant that is powered by geothermal and solar energy. They get their organic, fair trade coffee locally from Emy J’s just down a couple blocks away. Their honey is also boughten locally and is raw and unrefined. Even their oil is collected and reused as biodiesel in the surrounding area.
Habibi’s Gyro and Kabob House is going to be featured on “Where The Locals Eat” on News Line 9 in the month of May, so watch for more from them there! This local restaurant is everything you may want for lunch, dinner, or late night. Check out their menu and see what you will be getting next time you stop in!
