Don’t let this morning’s frost and chilly weather fool you—there are probably still several days of good golf weather left in Wisconsin. Get out there and enjoy Wisconsin’s beautiful golf courses while you still can because the snow will be here before you know it! (It was snowing in Wausau this morning—yikes!)
Instead of a golf tip this week, our resident golf expert Phil offered some food for thought and we’d love to hear your input. Phil’s thoughts this week concern the PGA’s thoughts on long putters. Phil says,
“It looks like the PGA is going to put some restrictions on the use of long putters as early as 2013. The ban would not affect amateur’s use of the putters. The main concern of those who think it should be restricted is the fact that it’s the only club currently allowed to be stabilized by pressing it against the body. Everyone claims that the long putter is much less effective from long distance and I have also found that to be true; I have personally gone to the long putter and it has really improved my putting from fifteen feet and closer. If there is such an advantage to using the long putter, why don’t more of the PGA players use them? If most of the PGA players do not use the putters, why put any restrictions on the use of long putters? I feel that everyone should have the option of using the long putter.”
This ban could possibly go into effect before the end of the year and has golf enthusiasts sounding off across the web. What are your thoughts on long putters? Do you agree with the PGA’s possible ban on them?
