Over the next several months we will be featuring two art students in our pop-up gallery at our Stevens Point office. These students, both from UW – Stevens Point, are pursuing art degrees.
Today, we would like to feature one of the artists who has a piece of work hanging behind the reception desk of our office. Hector Acuna, of Acuna Artworks, is a very talented artist and his work is available for purchase on his Facebook page. Acuna’s artwork primarily focuses on the human figure and landscape. He uses a realistic approach to best capture both forms of subject matter.
Post-graduation, Acuna plans on finding galleries in the Midwest and the Southwest. His goal is to become a professional artist and show his pieces of art across the country. Another route he may take is to attend graduate school in hopes of teaching university students painting and drawing courses.
Acuna feels that both drawing and painting are his strong suit. The art that he creates brings him a unique sense of satisfaction. The satisfaction is a result of learning how to overcome the challenges of constantly changing subject matter. Through a realistic approach he is able to create connections that people will find familiar and relatable. He finds great joy in hearing about the memories that people relate to his pieces of artwork.
Through his work, Acuna is able to recreate what he sees and uses his work as a way to store memories and make a permanent visual format. He is beginning to understand the speed of life and the fact that things are constantly evolving. Painting has allowed him to slow down time, in a sense, and really take the time to appreciate what he is creating.
