Thousands of brave individuals gathered around bodies of water throughout Wisconsin on New Year’s Day to participate in the bone-chilling event known as the “polar plunge.” Makeshift holes were carved in the ice across the state, including the Wisconsin River at Rusty’s Backwater Saloon in Stevens Point, the Chain of Lakes in Waupaca, and others.
At 82 years old, the Milwaukee Polar Bear Club president, Garth Gaskey, took the annual plunge for the sixtieth time and may be the oldest person in the state to do so. Gaskey is unsure if he will participate next year despite the four stents in his heart and his daughter begging him to resign from his icy hobby.
If your business hosts a polar plunge event, it would be important to check that your Wisconsin liability insurance policy is protecting you and your business. Mishaps are bound to happen, especially when an event involves cold weather, even colder water, and spectators and participants gathering around an icy body of water.
A Wisconsin liability insurance policy can protect you from claims due to bodily injuries and can be designed to cover other fees as well, such as expenses associated with defending against a claim.
