Is there anything better than apple season in Wisconsin? There are plenty of apple orchards throughout Central Wisconsin where you can pick your own apples for all your apple recipes. This apple recipe is a favorite of Sam in our Stevens Point office, who got the recipe from her mom. Sam says,
“This recipe is great for summer, but it also transitions well into fall because of the apples in it. Who knew that apples could make a great base for salsa?”
Apple salsa:
- 1 large Gala apple, diced
- 1 large Red Delicious apple, diced
- Juice of 2 limes
- ½ medium red onion, chopped
- 1 jalapeno seeded and diced
- 1 sweet banana pepper diced
- 1/3 cup chopped walnuts
- ¼ cup chopped cilantro
- ½ tsp ground ginger
- Salt to taste
- Blue corn tortilla chips
Place apples in large mixing bowl. Add lime juice and stir to coat. Mix in rest of ingredients and refrigerate.
Whip up this recipe for your next fiesta, or try it out as an alternative to the standard chips and salsa at your next Packer party. Although the blue corn chips taste best with this salsa, you can use any tortilla chips if you are unable to find blue corn chips.
Warning: This recipe is highly addictive! Be prepared to give the recipe to anyone who tries it. Where will you try out this unique recipe?
