Summer is (sadly) winding down, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get out there and enjoy what’s left. There are plenty of activities to do in Central Wisconsin, and our central location means that most areas of the state are a relatively easy drive away.
One very easy drive to make is to Wisconsin Dells. Is there a better way to beat the heat than by spending a day, weekend, or perhaps even a whole week in the Dells? Camping, waterparks, a great downtown area, restaurants, and other activities are all available for your pleasure in a city whose permanent population is less than 3,000 people.
Staying in the Dells is always fun, but that doesn’t mean you should stop worrying about safety. It is especially important to remember safety tips on vacation because no one wants to file a car, home, or health insurance claim while on vacation.
Before leaving, make sure your home is safe. Lock all your doors and windows and ask a neighbor, friend, or family member to keep an eye on your house while you are gone. Keep an eye on the weather and call your house-sitter to make sure severe weather has not damaged your home. Make sure your pets are watched over and have enough food. Drop your pets off at a sitter’s house if you are going to be gone for longer than a few days.
Make sure your car is safe when parking. Do not leave valuables in your car and make sure all the doors are locked. Bring a spare set of keys and give them to someone else in your group in case you lose your set. Never leave pets or children in a parked car as temperatures rapidly increase leading to dangerous conditions.
Never let children swim or explore on their own. It may be okay for your child to walk around your hometown unattended, but an unfamiliar and busy location such as Wisconsin Dells calls for constant supervision.
