As I biked around town this past weekend I noticed all the
families, friends, and communities having lots of grill outs. I love the smell of this time of year,
because you can really smell the bon fires and the grill outs going on. It is warm and the air just lingers with
delicious scents that make me hungry. We
have to remember though to be safe when having a grill out or a bon fire.
First, we have to make sure to follow regulations if we live
in the city. Some city ordinances allow
fires in enclosed areas and some not at all.
So make sure to look into what your area rules look like. They are in place for your safety and the
safety of your neighbors and community.
Second, make sure to grill any meat you may be planning to
serve completely. You do not want to
serve anything raw that may cause someone to get sick. Also, if you have cold foods make sure to
keep them in a cooler or use a kiddie pool and fill it with ice. These work great if you are having a large
group of people with lots of cold food because you can make a whole in the
bottom of the pool and put something underneath to catch the water. The pool can sit on two tables with the whole
right in the middle and the bucket on the ground. This is a great idea I have used for
graduation parties and grill outs.
Third, make sure to not allow the fire or the grill to get
too hot or too close to the house or overhanging tree limbs. This situation could cause a fire to start
and really harm you, your family, friends, and neighbors.
So if you are like me and enjoy grilling outside as the
weather keeps getting warmer make sure to stay safe and have lots of fun! Great games and conversations always
accompany a great backyard barbeque so let’s keep enjoying!
