Diesel and Levi’s first order of business is to make sure their fellow pets are safe this summer.  They have suggested these tips to help your pets have a great summer:

  • Probably the most important tip is to never leave your pet in a parked car.  The inside of a car can reach 120 degrees in only a few minutes, even when the outside temperature is only 80 degrees.  Leaving windows open or leaving your car for just a few moments still put your pet in danger of a heat stroke.
  • Keep your pet out of direct sunlight and know the signs of heat stroke.  Long-haired dogs may need a summer trim to help keep them cooler, while short-haired breeds can be at risk of sunburn.  If your pet is excessively panting, drooling, has a rapid pulse and fever, it may be suffering from heat stroke.  Run cool water on your animal and get them to the vet ASAP.
  • Make sure sidewalks and roads are not too hot for your pet’s paws by checking them with your feet.  If the surface is too hot for your feet, it will be too hot for your pet’s feet.

How do you keep your pet safe during the summer?  Share your tips with us when you stop in to see Diesel and Levi today!
