School is back in session at the University of Wisconsin—Stevens Point. That means it’s also the beginning of football season for the Pointers. This weekend, the season opener kicks-off against Albion College at 6 pm in the Spud Bowl.
The Spud Bowl celebrates the Central Wisconsin agriculture industry and the importance of agriculture to our community. Crop processing brings in a large amount of revenue to Wisconsin and has an annual impact of $5.3 billion. On Saturday, September 6th, the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point, along with 50 other local businesses will come together to raise awareness for local agriculture. There will be the annual Spud Run, followed by the Pointer football game, and a variety of scholarships will be awarded to local students.
Registration for the Spud Run begins at 2:30 pm with the race starting at 4:00 pm. After the 5K, participants can head over to the potato/French fry feed at the Northwest corner of the Goerke Field track. Tailgaters can also indulge in their choice of a baked potato or French fries before the football game begins.
If you don’t have any plans this weekend, get to Stevens Point and participate in all the fun that the Spud Bowl/Spud Run has to offer. Also, remember to check back here every Friday for this week’s edition of the Weekend Beat. Have a safe and enjoyable weekend from your family here at Community Insurance & Associates.
