This weekend proved that winter is officially here! Despite the calendar telling us that the first day of winter is still ten days away, our first real snowfall has cast a wintery feeling across Central Wisconsin. As pretty as it may look outside, winter weather brings serious hazards with it. Driving on winter roadways is no easy feat, and you might get stranded more easily thank you think. That’s why it’s important to have a car emergency kit with you, especially during the winter months.
Here are a few items to keep in your car emergency kit:
- Antifreeze
- Boots
- Cell phone and car charger
- Flashlight
- Insurance information and list of emergency numbers
- Sand and/or salt
- Small shovel
- Snow scraper
- Spare tire and car jack
- Water and snacks
- Winter coat and a blanket
Always tell a family member or friend when and where you plan on driving when conditions are bad. Let your friend know when you are leaving, your expected arrival time, and when you have arrived at your destination.
Are there any other items you include in your car emergency kit? How has your winter driving experience been so far this year?
