A few weeks ago our area was hit with one of the worst wind storms it has seen in years. These storms produced very high winds which resulted in hundreds of healthy trees going down. After a devastating storm like this customers are asking the question “what is covered under my policy”.
In most cases when a tree falls on your home your insurance company will pay to remove the tree and for the damage the tree caused. If the tree falls in your yard but does not hit or damage any of your property there is typically little or no coverage for the debris removal. Some companies will add debris removal coverage for an additional premium.
The question has also come up “what if my tree falls on my neighbor’s house?” When a healthy tree falls on your neighbor’s house or vehicle during a storm you are not liable for that damage. Your neighbor would have to look to thier own insurance for coverage.
If you have questions about this coverage or any other coverages in the Wisconsin homeowners insurance policy contact your agent.
